Improving operational maintenance brings many benefits but do you have the time or depth of resource to achieve change fully or effectively in house?
That sounds pretty obvious; improving any management system will bring benefits. Looking back at my own experience the last thing I needed when I was fending off the Production people or ‘fire fighting’ a load of breakdowns that all needed the same man or giving in and donning the overalls myself to deal with a particularly ‘critical’ problem was someone saying “…you should not be in this situation in the first place.”
I didn’t like it because I knew it was true. I didn’t have the time or
depth of expertise in my team (if they have the degree of expertise
needed chances are that is not the person you can spare) to stand back
and see what really needed doing to achieve a step change in the way we
did things. I couldn’t do it myself; I was either patching things to
keep going or defending decisions against the boss who ‘wouldn’t have
done it that way’.
I needed time and resource to be able to look at the overall picture
without getting dragged into the maelstrom. Through long days and
grabbing any quiet time, I started making changes and as if by magic;
reliability of the machines started improving and I found I had more
time and resource for more improvements and so it went on.
Gradually, senior managers and directors started noticing the
improvement and I was asked to look around other parts of the
organisation as that ‘spare’ resource or expert I had so wanted myself.
I still do it and have recruited a number of similarly experienced
associates to help. As Colin Sanders Associates we now have many years
of experience and have helped many leading companies across the UK and
Ireland to achieve real change and some outstanding benefits.
As well as operational maintenance we also provide management system
reviews and evaluation, develop system improvements, mentor, train and
most importantly help in implementing solutions. We do everything from
risk based management strategies to compliance management systems, work
instructions and targeting planned preventive maintenance schedules to
work stream planning and ‘Leaning’. And just because I haven’t
mentioned it here; ask, if we don’t know how to help or it’s not within
our area of expertise we will tell you, chances are though we might just
be able to help you.
Contact us to day without obligation for an informal chat about what
you are trying to achieve. We will be happy to advise you on how we
might help and give an indication of cost, without any 'hard sell'.
